How to Set Up A Morning Routine (feat. Tips from RISE App Instructors)

The right morning routine looks different for everyone. There is no one-size-fits-all, but what every morning routine has in common is this: it fires you up for your day and puts you in the best mindset to tackle your day. Establishing a morning routine takes a bit of trial and error, which is why we encourage you to try different things to see what is right for you. Here is our advice to set up a morning routine with tips from our RISE App Instructors!

Think about how you want to feel.

Is your aim to feel calmer? Energized? Inspired? Knowing what your desired feeling is will be key to setting up your morning routine.

We love how Stacey Flowers begins her morning routine wanting to feel thankful and grateful. She says:

My gratitude walk is literally how I start each day. It's how I wake up and set the tone. The first words I say each day are either: "I am so happy and grateful" or "Thank you."

Be intentional with your time.

Fitting everything in during the morning can be stressful! Your routine is meant to be the opposite of stressful. Use the Priority Planner to set up a structured routine so that we can see how much time to allocate per activity.

This is how PJ, one of our RISE instructors prioritizes his time:

I’ve considered myself an early riser, but nowadays with a newborn, I’m now up before 4 AM. The world is so quiet then allowing me to get in a quick workout at home or review of that day’s goals and “wouldn’t that be nice” list. The latter is my list of things I would love to do if the stars align, but cut myself some slack if they don’t happen due to adulting.

Know what is a must.

Morning routines can always change. Think about what is a MUST for this season. Don’t try to fit too much into the morning or else you’ll end up more stressed than anything. Be selective about what is a must in the morning!

Chris Chandler says breakfast is a must for him. Here's how he incorporates it in his routine:

I always have to have fuel in my system 30 min before I work out. I typically have a nutrient-dense protein smoothie and I use Arbonne’s energy fizz sticks to give me a boost while I work out.

Adjust your sleep times.

A lot of times, we realize we need to wake up earlier in order to create our ideal morning routine. This may seem daunting, but the key is to adjust your bedtime, too. The earlier you wake up, the sooner you need to be in bed. Here are some tips on how to get up earlier!

Brad gets in bed early with his husband, so he can have a slow morning. Here's what he has to say about getting to bed early so he can wake up:

I LOVE a slow morning. Getting up and rushing out the door is not preferred. I need some time to spend time with myself first and foremost. Otherwise, I feel out of control for the rest of the day. We sleep in on Sundays until around 7 AM, because I know I’ll still be able to have the morning I need for ME before the world comes knocking.
